Questions people ask
Do you take my insurance?
No. Juniper Door Counseling is out of network with insurance plans, and we do not take Medicare or Medicaid. You pay for each session yourself, and we give you a monthly receipt you can send to your plan. If you want someone who bills your plan, we will share the names of colleagues.
What is a superbill, and how do I use it?
A superbill is an itemized receipt with the dates and kind of each session, and your plan may reimburse part of out-of-network care when you send it one. Your plan decides, and it may pay nothing. It carries a diagnosis code your insurer can see, so ask your plan before you start.
What is a Good Faith Estimate?
If you pay without insurance, you have the right to receive a written estimate of what your care will cost before you start. We give you one before the first session. If the final bill is $400 or more above the estimate, you can dispute it. The estimate is not a contract.
How do fees work?
The fee depends on the kind of session and how long it runs. Your fee is given to you in writing before you start, and you pay at the end of each session. A limited number of reduced-fee spots are open; ask how to request one.
Can I use an HSA or FSA card?
Yes, most HSA and FSA cards work for counseling. Your plan administrator can tell you what it covers and what paperwork it wants.
What happens in the first session?
You and Kizzy talk for 50 minutes about what brought you to look for counseling, what you hope for and what you want her to know about your background, including any tradition. She explains how confidentiality works, and the two of you decide together whether to continue.
How often and how long are sessions?
An individual session is 50 minutes and a couple's session is 80. Most people meet weekly or every other week at first. Kizzy sets the pace with you, and there is no set number of sessions.
Is Kizzy licensed where I live?
Kizzy is licensed in Arizona, as a Licensed Professional Counselor. You can check her license with the Arizona Board of Behavioral Health Examiners. Video sessions are for people physically in Arizona, where she is licensed.
What do I do in a crisis?
Call or text 988, the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, any time. In an emergency, call 911. This site and our messages are not monitored around the clock, so please do not use them in a crisis.
What is confidential, and what are the limits?
What you say in session is private. The limits are set by law: a serious risk of harm to yourself or someone else, abuse of a child or a vulnerable adult, and a court order. Kizzy explains them in writing before you start.
Can you see my teen?
No. Kizzy sees adults, 18 and older. If you are looking for a counselor for a young person, we will gladly share the names of colleagues.
What is your cancellation policy?
We ask for 24 hours' notice to change or cancel an appointment. Life happens, and we talk it through with you.
Do I need to be religious?
No. People come with a faith, with several, with questions, or with none. You do not need to believe anything, and you will not be asked to.
